Field Notes
Description:
Clump of many erect stems. Stems white with woolly hairs. Leaves sessile, alternate on stem, egg-shaped, entire or toothed, about 1–2 1/2 in. long, white-woolly on underside, less so or hairless on top. Flower heads 4–12, in flat-topped cluster, on stalks 1–2 in. long, atop stems. Disk flowers 11–15, creamy yellow, with erect lobes. No ray flowers.
Habitat:
Grows in rocky open sites, on talus or sometimes serpentine, at low to subalpine elevations.
Notes:
Spotted in the Mt. Townsend Trail in the Olympic National Forest, WA.
