Field Notes

Description:

A slow worm making its way over a dust road. About 30 cm in length.

Habitat:

Mixed forest.

Notes:

These species are not snakes, they are in fact lizards with no legs and are non-venomous. Slow worms prey on small insects and earthworms and can lose their tail if they are preyed upon like some lizards do.
In some cases they have been spotted hibernating with the European Adder which are their natural foes.

Great catch Gaia. Our jungle people call legless lizards snakes and think we're crazy when we tell them they are lizards🤔🐍
Very interesting spotting. Thanks for sharing.
