Field Notes

Description:

Large mature Common Snapping Turtle. It was sunning itself on a rock near shore and did not seem to be too concerned with our presence. When we got closer we could see what we believe to be leaches on its back legs.

Habitat:

Shallow weedy warm end of a larger lake.

Notes:

Also sighted a beaver nearby. Vegetation included White Water Lilies, Yellow Pond Lilies, Water Shield, Common Bladderwort, Narrow-leaved Arrowhead, and Pickerel Weed.
