Field Notes

Description:

Endemic to South Africa. Male territorial, constantly patrolling. Fast and jerky flight. Two subspecies.

Habitat:

Fynbos hillsides that include the grass (Merxmuellera spp.) which is the food plant for the larvae.

Notes:

Tulbagh is a town in the western cape where this butterfly was first discovered.
