Field Notes

Description:

Deren is a deciduous, ornamental shrub. Its foliage is mostly a solid green color, but there are also variegated species. In spring, it blooms with white caps of small flowers. By autumn, small fruits are tied, which some birds like to eat. Also in autumn the color of the leaves changes: they turn bright yellow, red or maroon, sometimes dark purple. Some varieties of Derain bloom in early spring. From all the above properties, we can conclude: the shrub is decorative all year round! The shrub grows quickly. During the season, it can give an increase of up to 70 cm. The growth rate depends on the soil composition and the planting location on the site. The composition of the soil is not demanding. It tolerates our harsh winters well, and does not need shelter or any additional effort on our part. In General, this is not a whimsical plant in care.

Habitat:

The European part of Russia, Moldova, Caucasus, Ukraine, Western Europe and the middle East. It is found in many reserves of the European part and the Caucasus.
