Field Notes

Description:

A floppy, rubbery/jelly fungus that grows in a shape that one wants to call an ear. My very first sighting of these was them growing on a dying branch high in a walnut tree. I could not tell what they were but could see "red things" up there (the sun was shining through and lighting the brown up to a lovely glowy red)

Habitat:

These grow on several deciduous trees in our yards, preferring dying and dead wood.

Notes:

While bland Jelly ears are edible, most notably used in a making soup in China.
