Field Notes

Description:

This cutie is an endangered species found in South part of India. She is a post-metamorphic tadpole and so adult looks different It is one of the few amphibians in India, that constructs its nest above the ground using leaves. I got this fellow on a rainy evening. He was hiding under the leaf. She gave me some wonderful poses :)

Habitat:

This is first discovered in Kerala, A southern state of India. The species has been reported from sholas in Eravikulam National Park and Kudremukh National Park, plantations in Kodagu and Chikkamagaluru in Karnataka and Wayanad in Kerala

Notes:

This species of tree frog was considered to be very rare documented. In 2004, the IUCN assessed this species as Endangered and considered its
range to be restricted to two small areas of Wyanad and Coorg in southern Western Ghats of India. I belong to a place Near western Ghats. If i had known earlier that this was endangered, i could have took her to my home :P

Oh my dear uncle Ben..I am speechless for your words :) Thank you so much for such a lovely compliment :) This cutie deserves it more than me :)
This is a great shot, this is a great series. Hold on to do such magnificient work. You opened the door to the hall of fame of nature spotters. Heartly congrats from Uncle Ben.
Hi Gilma, I am speechless for your interest :) You are tempting me to find all stages of this froggie :) All i can say, western ghats of India or Agumbe rainforest is around 100 miles from my native village. I ll definitely go there soon, when i visit my native and ll get this froggie home. I found this fellow only once in my native village :( I am hoping i can found many in Agumbe :) There i ll try to get more info :) When searching, i too found lot of drastic changes in different stages :)
Adarsha, first I got to tell you...I love your Tadpole... : ) I went in links about frogs of india and try to find this cute frog, little did I know it was a tadpole and how different it turned out, but it was a lot of fun. I had to come back to your Frog spotting, and it was nice to go in the Link provided and see the tadpole before and after. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for such a nice compliment Antonio :)

Thank you FaredinAliyevski :) I edited the description :) I am planning to search again :) This time i ll take her home :P
Thanks Daniele! You welcome Adarsha, but you should definitely include in the description that this is the post-metamorphic tadpole and that the adult looks different, that was the part that made it hard otherwise it was easy to find it since there are not too many tree species in that region.
Fantastic! Congrats Adi and great detective work Faredin!
Wonderful specie. I've been wanting to bite it. Congratulations, my friend.
Thank you for first suggesting the ID Ashley,,Finally this fellow identified :) Thank you so much FaredinAliyevski for such a perfect suggestion :) I didnt knew it was is in Danger...I ll try to find this fellow once again in the same area when i go back to my Native :) Thank you all once again for support and favourites :)

Phenomenal series Adarsha!
Congrats Adarsha! Well deserved!
Congrats Adarsha, this is a perfect spotting of an endangered species. According to the link I provided yours is a post-metamorphic tadpole so it looks totally different than the adults that's why it was hard to find an ID, until I searched it on scientific journals. Here is a link to its conservation status and there are few English names provided that you can choose by yourself the one you prefer: http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/59000/0 . Your photos are unique since it's really rare to find a photo of this species in this stage so you should be really proud of yourself :).
congrats adarsha..!
