Field Notes

Description:

This little moth was probably trodden on and some of it's yellow guts can be seen at the rear of the abdomen. About 30mm across, male.

Habitat:

Found on the floor of a sports complex building in a country town camping area.

Notes:

Very cold conditions with a strong westerly wind and rain. One synonym - 'Darala dama' Apparently full wing span is up to 60mm. Feeds on poaceae... particularly Ehrharta erecta. Distribution http://bie.ala.org.au/species/Anthela+ocellata#

I know this one. There are several species down here, and they have the woolly bear caterpillars.
