Field Notes

Description:

I noticed a few days ago that some hummingbirds were attracted to our mimosa tree. We had a feeder just sitting around, so I made some food (1 part sugar, 4 parts water) and hung it in the tree. Now they'll come and go from flower to flower, then make long stops at the feeder and go around to each of the fake flowers on it. This female ruby-throated hummingbird flew in and just hovered right in front of me! This allowed for a lot of shots and this was the best I got. I am pretty proud of this one. :D

Habitat:

Attracted to a mimosa tree with a feeder. The tree is in my neighborhood on a little tiny property we own, so urban habitat.
