Thank you ForestDragon for the helpful info. Definitely appreciate it :)
Wonderful picture eshli.or! I believe this mantis is actually a Chinese Mantid, Tenodera sinensis sinensis. Some Chinese Mantids have a dark area on the inside of the legs but it is different than the European Mantis. In addition, Chinese Mantids seem to have dark marks on the inside of the claw (as you can see on yours): http://bugguide.net/node/view/557647/bgimage http://bugguide.net/node/view/577269/bgimage http://bugguide.net/node/view/3445/bgimage Mantis religiosa has a large spot in the armpit area that looks more like this: http://bugguide.net/node/view/10098 http://bugguide.net/node/view/323166 There is an area on the inside of the claw that has a yellow spot vs the dark spots like on yours: http://bugguide.net/node/view/728309/bgimage Compare the images and see what you think! Either way, please consider adding this to the Marvelous Mantids of the North East mission: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/15738247
