Field Notes

Habitat:

Island chaparral

Notes:

I had the opportunity to do some birding when I attended Camp Cherry Valley on Catalina Island as a Boy Scout in July of 2013. These are the insular subspecies of the California Valley Quail. These birds were tame compared to mainland quail because the Catalina Island Conservancy does not allow hunting.
