Field Notes

Description:

These photos are from a large tree, roughly 75 feet high. I need to determine the type of tree, so I can see if its possible and safe to burn the wood in an indoor fireplace.

There are a half dozen of these trees in my backyard.

The tree fell during a storm, as the base of the tree has eroded due to a small adjacent stream.

Thanks for any help!

Habitat:

I live 30 minutes Northwest of Albany, New York. Adirondack type vegetation in this area.

Thank you so much! I had no idea about this tree, I am reading about it now. It seems that this will be perfect for indoor firewood once seasoned. It seems like I will be able to make use of this fallen tree from the storm. Thank you for your response and help!
