Field Notes

Description:

One of the largest keeled land slugs with a distinct pattern. Both of these features make it easy to identify. There are variations to the patterning and colour. Native to Europe, introduced in Australia.

Notes:

This particular specimum appeared to have mites on its head possibly Riccardoella limacum. Found in an up turned plant pot. About 10cm long when crawling.

I've moved this slug from the Arthropod category to the Other category for you. Snails and slugs are Mollusks. Arthropods have an exoskeleton and jointed limbs in at least one phase of their life. Think dragonfly, bee, crab, and ant.
