Geometrid Moth
Cyllopoda sp.
16.728, -92.9332
Field Notes
Description:
Remarkable little day-flying moth with a yellow and black striped body and black and white striped legs, about 1 cm long.
The last two pictures are of a different individual found on August 22, 2015 in a park close to the original sighting. This female was trapped in a spider web in a window, she flew away after being released so I only got a single but OK picture of the upper side of the wings. This moth looks like those of the genus Cyllopoda, but I could not find any with a stripped abdomen like this one. Family Geometridae.
Habitat:
First 3 pictures - Heavy shrubbery along the highway between San Cristobal de Las Casas and Tuxtla Gutierrez, km 11.5, 865 meters.
Last 2 pictures - Chorreadero Park, Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas.
