Description:
This striking Katydid was on several different plants. In the 1st, 2nd and 5th pictures, they are on a plant that was lethal to touch! It has tiny spines, especially on the underside and edges of the leaves and it penetrates clothing and causes itching and swelling and even open sores. The 3rd and 4th pictures are on Acacia. Photos 1 through 3 are of the nymph, photo 4 is of the adult male and photos 5 and 6 of the adult female. Family Tettigoniidae.
Habitat:
Heavy shrubbery along the highway between San Cristobal de Las Casas and Tuxtla Gutierrez, km 11.5, 865 meters.
Notes:
I had found the nymphs and the adult male on August 2nd, so I went back on August 12th to look for the female......and found her!
