Field Notes

Description:

About 50mm across the cap. Top was mostly smooth with few very small granules, pale grey, rubbery to touch; gills simple and close, slightly adnate and detached, creamy white; stipe fibrous white with a distinct ring one third down; a relatively large bulbous base was found just below the ground surface.

Habitat:

Dry eucalyptus forest near a small country town. This specimen was approx. 2 metres from a large eucalyptus.. possibly 'Apple Gum'. The earth seemed a mix of sand and humus fairly dry.

This doesn't seem to look anything like Amanita umbrinella... http://www.amanitaceae.org/?Amanita+umbrinella
Thanks Mister Meister. I had totally forgotten about this one.
Definately some Amanita species. The white gills, bulbous base and partial veil remnants are the characteristics that lead me there.
