Field Notes

Description:

Spanish moss is a flowering plant that is an epiphyte in that it absorbs its nutrients and water from the air and rain.

Habitat:

Mostly in the Southeastern U. S.

Notes:

This specimen was seen amongst many on a hike in First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach, Virginia. To the best of my knowledge, this state park in southeastern Virginia is the northernmost point in the Southeastern U. S. at which Spanish moss is found.
