Field Notes

Description:

Large spider (maybe as large as a 50 cent piece for circumference of legs). with dark brown/light brown markings. Females carry egg sacs around with them until they hatch at which point babies ride on the mother's abdomen until it's time for them to depart. This mother has her nest of babies riding on her back.

Habitat:

Thank goodness this spider stayed outside. I found a mama with babies in my hallway last year and all the babies scattered as I tried to get her out. She rested on the outdoor porch stoop below the lamplight. West central ga.
