Field Notes

Description:

Tiny spider of 5 mm with clubbed palpi. It walked right up to a much larger Ichneumonid wasp and examined it's legs (pictures 3 and 4). The wasp ignored it and he finally walked away. It was seriously debating attacking the wasp. This is probably a male. Family Miturgidae (Long Legged Sac Spiders). These spiders have a painful bite, are nocturnal hunters and hide in a silk sac during the day.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.

Yes Jemma, I think you are right, it fits most of the descriptions of a sac spider. Glad I didn't pick it up. I wish I had a better picture of the eye formation. Thank you.
