Field Notes

Description:

A small white moth with dark markings and a wingspan of about 20mm. Hind legs covered with long bristles and spikes were held out and away from the body.
Antennae were feathery -? male

Habitat:

this moth was spotted on a building wall in a football oval. The area had mixed native trees.

Notes:

Moth caterpillar feed on scale insects (Coccidae) and have been introduced in New Zealand as a scale control.
