Description:

Eastern Box titles have a dome-like carapace that is normally brown in color with yellow or orange patterns. Males will normally have red eyes where females will usually have brown.

Habitat:

Found in the Eastern United States (Florida - Maine). They prefer deciduous or mixed forested regions with a moderately moist forest floor. Can also be found in open grasslands and pastures.

Notes:

According to the Virginia Herpetological Society there is a high conservation need for the Eastern Box Turtle. "Extinction or extirpation is possible. Populations of these species are in decline or have declined to low levels or re in a restricted range. management action is needed to stabilize or increase populations.
