Description:
Bee flies are a parasitic insect of the family Bombyliidae. Females seek unprotected nests containing large carpenter bee (Xylocopa sp.) larvae. If successful, the female tiger bee fly lay hers eggs in the nest, and her larvae feed on the carpenter bee larvae.
Habitat:
This one was at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Cuyahoga County, Cleveland, Ohio, USA. This is not captive but was flying around the petting zoo.
