Field Notes

Description:

By stomping the ground, this filter-feeding American Flamingo is trying to suspend food into the water column (see video). A nearby Common Moorhen (Gallinula chloropus cachinnans) is hoping to get some free food. This spotting was on Isabela Island, Galápagos.

Thank you for correcting me on the duck!
Beautiful spotting and great video, Jasmine! The bird benefitting from the flamingo's activity is not a duck, but a Gallinule or Moorhen, Gallinula chloropus, as far as I can make out.
