Field Notes

Description:

Less than l/4" in size. Spiky. Head is somewhat flat with elongated neck. Eyes are round and protrude. Front legs are sharply spiked and end in hooks. Antenna are at the front of the upper "jaw". Extending from and slung below the lower "jaw" is what appears to be a probiscus. Back of organism is somewhat triangular in shape and top is spiked. Appears to have very small wings. Stiff hair on legs.

Habitat:

Spotted in backyard garden on Coneflower.

Notes:

This organism is VERY hard to photograph! It reminds me of the Jagged Ambush Bugs that live on the Black-Eyed Susans.
