Field Notes

Description:

Tall mushroom with a ringless stipe about 2.5 inches tall. It's wider at the base than at the top. The cap's diameter is less than the stalk's height. It has a depression in the center with a darkened bump. Cream colored gills are frilly and the ridges are continuous with the cap.

Habitat:

Found on the ground deep in a mountain forest, approximately 3000' elevation. Partial shade.

Notes:

ID is tentative and based on help from user at Mushroom Observer. However, tawny grisette, Amanita fulva, is still also a possibility.

Thanks very much, Mark! No ring. I don't know if there was a volva.
Very nice. Tawny grisette? (Amanita fulva) Really needs stipe view... ring or volva?
