Field Notes

Description:

Beautiful green and bronze beetle with a matte shell. About 3/4 inch in size. The legs are copper and bright metallic green. Adults are active in the day.

Habitat:

Elevation 3000+ ft, temperate mountain forest.

Notes:

Not to be confused with the Japanese beetle, or its cousin Cotinis mutabilis, which is found primarily in the southern US.

I am so sorry, I looked up Japanese June on google and that's what the first link on Wikipedia was.

Thanks for the help with the ID, ConorSheaWing. I have to disagree with your species suggestion, though. My spotting is out of Cotinis mutabilis's range. I think this is the June beetle, Cotinis mutabilis, whose eastern range fits much better.
