Field Notes

Description:

A small thin wingless bug.

Habitat:

Found under the loose bark of a large tree

Notes:

I would normally suspect a wingless form to be a nymph but I suspect this one is adult.

It was the strangest little insect I've seen in a long time, Martin. Unlike yours, it was covered in fine little "hairs" (plus it picked up a bit of fur from my dog). The wings really through me at first, because I thought it was a mantisfly nymph. But in the photo I could see the proboscis, so that meant it was a true bug.
That's quite a clear photo. Your seems to have wings but not mine. I saw three together - under bark near the pseudoscorpoon.
I found this little one on a friend's fridge: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/6448609
The tiny front legs are grasping tools and the two thin structures pointing forward are antennae.
