Field Notes

Description:

The males and females of this species differ in color and appearance. Adult males are a powdery blue, while females are green. Young males are also green with rings on the abdomen, but change color as they mature.

Habitat:

City maintained retention pond.

Notes:

Pondhawks get their name from their predatory behavior. They capture and consume other insects, ones even as large as themselves. They will even eat other pondhawks.
