Description:

Strict Blue-Eyed Grass is native to northern parts of North America. It is very similar in appearance with Stout Blue-Eyed Grass and the two species are sometimes combined.
Strict Blue-Eyed Grass is a perennial plant that grows in clumps reaching heights between 10-15 cm (4-6 in.) It flowers in early June.
This plant is sometimes referred to as Star Grass, because of the shape of its flowers. Although its name suggests that this plant is a type of grass, it actually isn't. It is a member of the Iris family, and is closely related to the Blue Flag Iris.

Habitat:

This is a native plant that grows across the prairies and in open fields and meadows. Blue-Eyed Grass has also been grown in flower gardens.

Notes:

I first came across this little flower several years ago now, and I have enjoyed seeing it every summer since. Of course, it was always there, but I never really paid much attention to it until I started focusing on different wildflowers to photograph. I love the colour of these tiny flowers. These particular ones were growing out in the open field near the house.
