Field Notes

Description:

Family Tachinidae, subfamily Phasiinae. This fly is present in most of Europe. The adults grow up to 5–9 millimetres (0.20–0.35 in) long and can mostly be encountered from early August through late September feeding on nectar of flowers.

Habitat:

Found on a wild growing golden rod, meadowland.

Notes:

In this quite variable species the body may be blackish or brownish. The broad abdomen is flattened. The larvae are parasitic of Hemiptera, mainly of various species of Shield Bugs. This fly is present in most of Europe.

Hahaha Sckel! Me Me neither! No common name in Swedish either Daniele, And I can just say "cheers" in Polish so I think I am the wrong person for a research in that language :D I like the Breitflüglige Raupenfliege name! It sounds... very German haha!

A pity this beauty doesn't seem to have an English common name! But I've got the French one: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/38415040 German is Breitflüglige Raupenfliege. What we need is the Polish name I guess :-)
