Description:

The Columbian ground squirrel is a species of rodent in the Sciuridae family. They are only active approximately 100 days each year. The males emerge first from hibernation each Spring - prior to the emergence of leafy vegetation - and rely on food stores previously cached to survive. Females emerge soon after, mate, and reproduce with the number of offspring ranging from three to five.

Habitat:

Prefers grasslands and sedges, but can be found in intermontane valleys, open woodland, subalpine meadows, etc.
