Dear student: can you explain to us whether it was an assignment from your teacher to bring dead specimens to the class for identification?
In such case, could you provide us with your teachers email address?
I speak to you but you could bring this message to the rest of the class: in while in former times identification of insects and other animals infortunately involved the killing of one specimen so that it could be brought to the class or laboratorium for further identification in PN we are showing that there are nowadays more humane ways to ID an animal while it is alive and in its habitat without disturbing it and this is through digital photography. While sometimes people finds unfortunately a dead animal and still shows it as spotting, or others show their fish catches (which I personally do not agree with but is still allow in the web site) we would like to encourage young people and students to try the more humane way: make a photograph of the animal alive. You can catch it with special transparent boxes that are sold for that purpose and then release it afterward. As you can see here in PN we can ID animals from a picture so this should suffice and is a much better way to leave the animal alive in its habitat, it is part of conservation of our natural environment which is now in so much need of our help.
Please spread this message to your student mates and please also to your teacher and also provide me with his/her email address if you can.
Many thanks and welcome to PN!
