Field Notes
Description:
A brownish pink moth with a wingspan of 50mm. Wings have distinct slightly grey reniform markings on each wing wing a brown line through them. Medial to these markings is a single spear-shaped brown marking on each fore wing.
Antennae was feathery suggesting that this moth is male.
Habitat:
Spotted near suburban gardens and open grass land.
These are found all over Australia.
Notes:
A Noctuid moth, this species is considered an agricultural pest. It damages food crops, lucerne and cotton. The larvae sever the young plants at ground level and feed on the felled plant while hiding in the litter below.
