Description:

red head; grey-white/black wings; wing span about 5 feet

Habitat:

Dry Tropical Forest edge

Notes:

Spotted while it perched on the zipline post for the guardabarranco ride. It opened and closed its wings for a few minutes, then flew away. Vultures are an ecologically vital group of birds that face a range of threats in many areas that they occur. Populations of many species are under pressure and some species are facing extinction. Did you know there was an international vulture awareness day every first Saturday in September?
