Eastern White Pine

This is the largest conifer in eastern North America; it once dominated the forests of the Northeast. In a few remote, protected places pure stands of huge old trees can still be found. The Pine is one of the first seed-bearing trees to have evolved; pines existed before the age of dinosaurs.
