Field Notes

Description:

Family: Nymphalidae. Subfamily: Danainae (Milkweed butterflies) Male. 2 black spots on wings (scent scales). Wingspan up to 4 inches (102 mm) Males are larger than female. Orange with dark black veins. Wings trim is black with white spots. Head, thorax and abdomen is black with white spots.

Habitat:

Meadow. Feeding on goldenrod.

Notes:

First Monarch spotted in my meadow this year.
