Field Notes

Description:

Light brown butterfly with two eye spots on the fore-wing. I observed this one on the edge of an open field. It fluttered around landing in the grass and eventually on some Aster flowers. I have seen 3 of these butterflies in the last few days, the other two I observed in the forest flying around the trees.

This butterfly does not stand out, being for the most part a uniform brown colour, but it is very beautiful just the same.

Habitat:

Meadows, fields & marshes (open & sunny areas).

Notes:

This butterfly was very flighty and difficult to photograph. I had to follow it around for awhile before I was able to get a few decent pictures. When it would land it would open and close it's wings one or two times in quick succession, but it kept it's wings folded most of the time.
