Description:

The red bellied wood pecker is the largest common wood pecker of the eastern United States. Its length from head to toe is about 9 inches. They are easy to spot due to their red crown and black and white striping on its back. The actual red spot on the birds belly is rarely seen. The regular nest type for a red belly wood pecker is cavity.
