Field Notes
Description:
Upperside of wings is a white colour with a black tip on both forewings. Females have two black spots on their wings, males have one. The underside of the hindwings is a yellow-green or gray-green. The butterflies in both the spring and fall are smaller with less black on the wing tips.
Wingspan: 1 3/4 - 2 1/4 inches (4.5 - 5.8 cm)
Habitat:
This butterfly like most open spaces, such as: weedy areas, gardens, roadsides, cities, and suburbs. The adult eats nectar from a wide range of flowers, including: mustards, red clover, mints and asters,
Notes:
This butterfly was very tricky to photograph. He did not like me being anywhere near where he wanted to land and eat. He fluttered very erratically around the garden many times before I was able to finally get a couple good photos. I've seen a couple more since the day I photographed this one, and they all enjoying flying around all over the place.
