Field Notes

Description:

A very attractive fungi with clean white stem and gills and a bright orange cap. The main feature which surprised though was the orange volva at the base. About 60mm tall.

Habitat:

In dry sclerophyll eucalyptus forest in mosses and light grasses. Only one specimen found.

Notes:

That beautiful orange shell volva was key to IDing this one. This is an amanita that has no ring on the stipe. The patch on the top of the pileus is remnant of the universal veil... as is the volva.
