Description:

The downy woodpecker is the smallest woodpecker in North America. Both sexes have black and white plumage, but males have a red patch on the back of their heads. They often visit suet feeders in residential neighborhoods.

Habitat:

This one was pecking at a treat cake in my suet feeder.
