Field Notes

Description:

This Heron had a nest in a tree overlooking a pond by the lake. I never saw it on the nest, but always standing beside it, so I just presumed it was it's nest. Photos of the nest, next spotting.

The Green Heron (Butorides virescens) is a small heron of North and Central America.

The Green Heron is relatively small; adult body length is about 44 cm (17 in). The neck is often pulled in tight against the body.

Habitat:

The habitat of the Green Heron is small wetlands in low-lying areas.

okay tmvdh, Mark has removed it! Thank you Mark!
Yes tmvdh, how strange! I removed them immediately... Just did it again now. Clicked off the tick and it said 4 missions, then saved, and the mission is still there! Will restart the computer, and if that fails, I'll trash that spotting and re-enter it. Have been having trouble with PN not saving the photos I added also. Time to reboot!
Hi Pam, both spottings are still visible in my mission... ???
hehehe tmvdh, sorry... So used to clicking on that mission for all the butterflies, I guess I forgot what I was uploading. Either that or I was on automatic pilot. I had to remove several others also. Guess I missed this one! Removed!
Hi Pam, a great spotting - but this isn't an insect ;-). Could you please remove it from my mission? Thanks & best wishes
thanks bayucca... birds as well, eh!
Yes, Green Heron, Butorides virescens, similar to the formerly and sometimes still conspecific Striated Heron (Butorides striata). But I think the latter is more found in South America.
