Field Notes

Description:

Also known as Spotted coral root. It is a small flowered orchid which grows to 40 cm tall. The plant is purplish to reddish in color. The flowers are spaced apart (though more clustered near the top) and are white with reddish to violet spots.

Habitat:

Spotted near a trail in a coniferous forest. Range is from British Columbia east to Quebec, and south through Michigan through the western United States to Utah, New Mexico, and northern Mexico.
