Field Notes

Description:

A reddish-brown moth with whalebone femurs and knees around it's ears... About 22mm long, sweet brown eyes (at night), bone-white legs with large spines, even pink-tan colour on the upper wing surface but with faint darker markings, pointy mouth parts typical of Pyralidae, front-up posture.

Habitat:

Drawn to mercury vapour lamp at night at the local school.

Notes:

An incredibly variable moth - the pinkish ones are called the 'Eastern form' for Qld. NSW Vic, and Tas
There is a 'Western form' which is black and found in SA and WA It has since been spotted in the same area here.... http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/137956004
