Field Notes

Description:

The Malachite (Siproeta stelenes) is a neotropical brush-footed butterfly (family Nymphalidae). The malachite has large wings that are black and brilliant green or yellow-green on the uppersides and light brown and olive green on the undersides.

The wingspread is typically between 8.5 and 10 cm (3.3 and 3.9 in).

The malachite is found throughout Central and northern South America, where it is one of the most common butterfly species.

Notes:

This butterfly species really liked me and would often land on me and drink up the sweat. The last photo is taken in the Ecological Park in San Jose.

Cottected the location. Seems like my map wants to put all my spottings as from San Jose. Couldn't have anything to do with my carelessness, could it?
thanks Karin, I forgot about that rule! Removed the photo...
Gorgeous spotting and lovely photos. Unfortunately photo #6 needs to be edited to hide your face to comply with the "no people in spottings" rule of PN. Such a great experience though and fun to share in it!
