Field Notes

Description:

About 2 1/2 feet tall. Branching, slender short leaves. Flowers small, about 3/4", irregular. Buds are fuzzy, as seen in pic #1.

Habitat:

Along the side of the road in a transition zone between Sandhill and Pine Flatland habitats.

Along Rt. 11, in the Salt Springs Island area, Ocala National Forest.

Notes:

I am somewhat hesitant to call it "PinelandCatchfly" ..(Polanasia tenuifolia) as these flowers are definitely tinged a lovely raspberry pink, and all pictures of the Catchfly are white and yellow.

I'm sorry, I don't recall if the plant was sticky or not. Next time I'll take notes.... (bad naturalist....)

Slenderstalk Beeblossom

Oenothera filipes

G. filipes is in Florida, so I think you hit it bang on the dot! :).
I checked three different sites and none of them seem to have Florida in range for it. However, that could just be because of the taxonomic change and those sites have not updated their range maps since the change.
I looked it up and you seem to be correct. I'm curious to know why you think it's not specifically O. filipes. (I'm still learning my Flda botany...!)
Actually maybe not that species, but I still think it is a beeblossom
I believe this is slenderstalk beeblossom, Oenothera gaura or Gaura filipes as it used to be called (http://www.itis.gov/servlet/SingleRpt/SingleRpt?search_topic=TSN&search_value=27649). But I am not sure. It could be something in the same genus as that plant though.
