I spotted this in Santuario Otun Quimbaya.

You're gamble paid off! I would say they are similar, you got better angles on your shot for an easier ID. This one just flew off before I could manage anything else.
I'll try to get a shot of the one I've seen up today. I'm willing to bet you'll say they are quite similar.
Thanks Chris, I know it's going to be hard to ID from this angle but it may be that.
I've seen the exact same wasp/hornet in Costa Rica. I'm not 100% positive on a species, but I believe it could be some sort of tarantula hawk.
