Field Notes

Description:

Unusual orange moth, 2 cm long. This species is a pest of cotton, although I have never seen it before and cotton is not grown in the mountains of Chiapas.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.

Notes:

The reference listed cites studies conducted in Peru with this moth, where pest control by natural enemies was found to be more effective than the use of insecticides.
