Not an golden-orb weaver. LisaPowers is correct. They are both big, but G-O-W's are huge, and they have shaggy tufts at the legs joints. (Nephila clavipes). Here in Florida we call those "Banana spiders. Basically harmless. http://bugguide.net/node/view/354677 I've seen the A. aurantia called "golden orb", but not sure why.... N.clavipes has actually golden silk. A aurantia doesn't, to my knowledge.
