Field Notes

Description:

alternate black stripes with grey or cream colored bands with yellow dots over some of the black bands.
When disturbed, as with most swallowtail caterpillars, they project their osmeterium and release a foul smelling and tasting substance.

Habitat:

Feeding on Bronze Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare 'Purpureum'), specifically planted to host them in my flower bed.

Notes:

Some instars may have spikes.
